3.2.1. Strategic definition of EU policies and legislation

The Commission has a strong policy and legislation orientation. The constant evolution of new policies determines what programmes the Commission needs to focus on and which services it needs to provide.

In terms of future EU policies and legislation, the Commission has prepared a comprehensive medium-term strategy, called Europe 2020. It involves a broad range of policy areas, ranging from the economy, finance, employment and social affairs, education, environment, climate change, energy, transport, research and innovation, information society and media, enterprise and industry, internal market, regional cohesion, agriculture, maritime and fisheries policies. This will pilot the direction of work for the years to come with the aim to get Europe`s economy back to growth and employment.

The definition of future priorities is coordinated by the Secretariat General and decided upon by the College of Commissioners.
